The event is the primary fund-raiser for St. Cecilia Grade School and has raised more than $1.2 million since it was first held 10 years ago. Event chairs for 2010 are Kimberly and Michael Joyce, and Mike and Julie Swartz. Chairs for 2011 are Brian and Lyn Rhoten, and Christopher Burbach and Judith Nygren.
Honorary Chairs
We are pleased that our honorary chairs for the event are our original class of deacons from 1972. Rev. Mr. Jim Watson, Rev. Mr. Fred Sommer, Rev. Mr. Dave Gurney and Rev. Mr. Joe Archibald have offered nearly four decades of dedication and service to Saint Cecilia Cathedral parish. Their commitment to the deaconate program has produced a faithful ripple effect that continues to strengthen all of us. It is our privilege to honor and recognize their many years of service to our parish.
Honorees
Each year Comedy & Cuisine selects honorees to recognize for their service. For 2010, Comedy & Cuisine will honor the Leo Wilwerding family as Great Family. Over the years, Leo, along with his late wife, Marlene, served as stewards on countless projects here at Cathedral, for both the parish and the school. The Wilwerding family brings three generations of service to the school and the parish and we are delighted to honor and recognize their commitment to all things Cathedral.
We will also honor the outstanding faculty who help us carry out our mission at Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School. Our outstanding and award-winning faculty, with an average tenure of 22 years, set the standard for academic excellence. Our veteran faculty carries on the Dominican tradition of educating the whole child in academics, faith and service to community. Their success in doing so attracts families from across Omaha, Easter Nebraska and Western Iowa. (Insert picture of the faculty here)

Some of the favorites
Do you know what your kids have been working on? A favorite part of the event is seeing the class art projects that are worked on by each grade and donated to the event for auction. The kids love being a part of raising money for the school and are also excited to work on their art projects. Here is a little information to peak your interest….can you match up the project your child is a part of? A three piece picture designed by the students representing new beginnings, a photographic collage, a Cross representing that special 1st Communion year, a perpetual wooden calendar, a mirror with cooper design work by the students, a table handcrafted with religious symbols designed by students and a book not only authored by the students but full of photos they took on a behinds the scene tour of the Cathedral. There are more projects being worked so make sure you are getting the inside scoop from your kids!
Have you heard...
from your room mom yet? The room moms are busy getting baskets ready to sell at the Operetta and to donate as silent auction items for the night of Comedy and Cuisine. Some of the great baskets that are being put together include, Pamper Me, Italian fixings, Going Green, Get Healthy, Chocolate Delights, Photography for You and Me, Scrape Bookers Fun and many more. Be ready to shop at the Operetta and to do lots of bidding at the auction for these great items.
Baubles and Bubbles is also a traditional part of the Comedy and Cuisine evening. This year’s item for Baubles and Bubbles is an amazing Miracle Icon’s religious pendant donated by Mary Jo Pane, Kyle Pane’s aunt. You won’t want to miss the chance to drink some Champaign and have an opportunity to own this beautiful piece of jewelry.
Some items for your live bidding pleasure this year are Wicked tickets to the summer production, Creighton Basketball Box seats, and don’t forget to get your group together to bid on all the great dinners that make the live auction so fantastic.
Do you want to party all night?
Well if you do the chairs have arranged for a special room rate at the Hilton. If you reserve your room prior to February 23rd your rate is $119.00 for the night! Just call the Hilton at 998-3400.

2009 Comedy & Cuisine Connection, Issue 1
What is Comedy & Cuisine?
St. Cecilia Comedy & Cuisine began in April 1998 as a salute to Mrs. Bonnie Pryor, who had then served 25 years as St. Cecilia’s principal.
Since then the event has raised more than $1 million. The event funds capital improvements. Over the past 11 years, Comedy & Cuisine funds have provided a new science lab, computer technology, gym and kitchen renovations and new exterior windows for our school. Proceeds from last year’s event helped fund the renovations to the library and office and reception area.
The event is not just a way to raise money, it also builds community. Those who attend or volunteer get to know other school parents and parishioners better and develop a stronger understanding of what
makes our school special.
The night of Comedy & Cuisine is a semi-formal dinner that includes live and silent auctions, along with awards and entertainment. Invitations will be sent in February so watch for yours in the mail!

The annual spring dinner and auction fundraiser was led by Ronand Robin Woita and Tom and Kelly Hickey, the chair couples.
